P’s and Cues™ introduces positive character traits and fosters creativity and imaginary play through interactive puppet shows. In every session of P’s and Cues, participants go on an imaginary adventure and help tell the story by repeating lines and handling props. Most importantly, every participant is a puppeteer!
The stories told in the puppet shows cover a wide range of positive character traits including generosity, determination, respectfulness, and patience, just to name a few. Social skills and basic manners are also emphasized in each show. Participants benefit from the opportunity to practice the skills of listening and following directions in every show as they listen for their cues to repeat lines and follow the directions for handling props. After each session, participants receive a “cue card” and a summary of the day’s show and the lesson learned.
WHY WE FOCUS ON CHARACTER TRAITS AND SOCIAL SKILLS:
An article in the July 16, 2015 issue of USA Today highlighted a study on social competence published in the American Journal of Public Health. It stated that Kindergartners with strong social and emotional skills were more likely than their peers to succeed academically and professionally, according to a 20-year study that followed more than 750 children until age 25. Our sessions include social skills such as taking turns, sharing, listening, and cooperating as these skills were noted as being especially important.
All children will enjoy and benefit from the opportunity to be part of the show and practice social skills that are so critical for success in school and beyond.

P's and Cues was developed by Laura Boyden after years of working with young children and seeing how much all children want to be "part of the show". Children love imaginary play and being called upon to participate in the telling of a story. Laura sought to provide an opportunity for creative, imaginary play while also teaching positive character traits and social skills that would provide a great foundation for shaping later behavior.
